Kim's Convenience is a Canadian television sitcom that aired on CBC Television from October 2016 to April 2021 as well as Netflix. What began as a fringe piece that no-one wanted to produce quickly became a must-see with a devoted following! The series depicts the Korean Canadian Kim family that runs a convenience store in the Moss Park
neighbourhood of Toronto: parents "Appa" (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) and "Umma" (Jean Yoon) – Korean for dad and mom, respectively – along with their daughter Janet (Andrea Bang) and estranged son Jung (Simu Liu). In this Janette’s TV & Janette’s TV Podcast episode, as part of accredited media at The Canadian Screen Actors Awards virtual red carpet, Janette sits down with the two stars to talk about what attracted them to their roles, what their roles meant to them as actors of colour & members of the Asian community, what they want to be remembered for & why, how playing “Appa” & “Umma” changed their lives, and much more
